Darren Darnborough and Richard Cambridge are perfect examples of two actors taking control of their careers and being proactive in an industry which demands just that, if you wish to succeed in an increasingly overcrowded profession and have your voice heard. Their creation will benefit all actors globally.
DIARY OF AN ACTOR. Ep. #25. ACTORS' NOTES. THE POND THEATRE COMPANY. As we fast approach Diary Of An Actor's 2nd anniversary, we are celebrating early with a very special diary's, Actors' Notes, with four interviewees as our guests, who collectively make up The Pond Theatre Company.
DIARY OF AN ACTOR created by John Pirkis and Cécile Delepière. Ep#24. ACTORS' NOTES. Jimmy Akingbola. Jimmy Akingbola is truly a force to reckon with on so many levels.
DIARY OF AN ACTOR by John Pirkis. Ep#23. Actors' Notes. Ray Trickitt I met Ray Trickitt in Los Angeles in 2011, not long after both of us had taken the leap and relocated from London. Ray and I graduated from our respective drama schools and started our professional careers at around the same time, but our career trajectories were very different.
DIARY OF AN ACTOR by John Pirkis. Ep #22. ACTORS' NOTES. Sondra James Our guest on this episode is very special in so many ways! Firstly, Sondra James is the reason I am in New York, and why I haven't stopped working here since my arrival.
DIARY OF AN ACTOR. Season2 EP#21. THE RETURN. Well, the Fall is upon us, and summer behind us, and welcome back to the all new, DIARY OF AN ACTOR. The summer for me was no holiday, and I am not complaining, the result is that I have been working since August, and am contracted through October to possibly November and beyond.
With a few weeks of our Summer break remaining, here is a snapshot recap promo for Season 2 of DIARY OF AN ACTOR, resuming August 2015. Thanks to all our subscribers and viewers for your support and generous comments. With special thanks to our guests on Actors' Notes, Yvonne Wandera, Caroline Kinsolving, Daniel Passer, and Jake Robinson.
DIARY OF AN ACTOR. ACTORS' NOTES. EP#20. JAKE ROBINSON. Very occasionally you meet a young actor and you instinctively know that they are destined for greatness; you feel it. I first encountered it with Tom Hiddleston and Tom Hardy when they were working at my theatre early on in their careers.
DIARY OF AN ACTOR. ACTORS' NOTES. Ep#19. Daniel Passer. Our third guest in our, ACTORS' NOTES series has a remarkable list of skills and qualifications to his name as a result of the very particular journey he took, once he knew from a very early age that he wanted to be a performer.
DIARY OF AN ACTOR. EP#18. ACTORS' NOTES. CAROLINE KINSOLVING Our second guest in our ACTORS' NOTES series has had a love affair with the spoken word from her infancy. Caroline Kinsolving grew up on a farm in New England and is the daughter of two writers.
DIARY OF AN ACTOR By John PIRKIS. Ep#17 ELITISM. In January of this year the Shadow Arts Minister, Chris Bryant, wrote an open letter to The Guardian newspaper (UK), in which he expressed his frustration that the acting profession is top heavy with 'Posh Kids', and that 'working class' kids are not getting the same opportunities to pursue a career in acting.
DIARY OF AN ACTOR By John PIRKIS. Ep#15. RENAISSANCE. Welcome to the relaunch of what was, Diary Of A 'failed' Actor! Since we launched the, DIARY series 5 months ago we have had an amazing response.
DIARY OF AN ACTOR By John PIRKIS. Ep#15. RENAISSANCE. Welcome to the relaunch of what was, Diary Of A 'failed' Actor! Since we launched the, DIARY series 5 months ago we have had an amazing response.
DIARY OF A 'failed' ACTOR. Ep.14# Diversity. One of our followers, Haruka Kuroda, asked us to examine the subject of Diversity, to discover whether the U.S. or the UK were leading the way in breaking down walls and pushing forward in rendering articles such as this irrelevant.
DIARY OF A 'failed' ACTOR. Ep#13. Bullying. A bully, like a thief, has little care and no understanding of the deep sense of loss, helplessness, personal intrusion and hurt felt by their victims. However, a house burglary drifts toward frustration and annoyance before eventually life regains its daily routine once more, whereas the trauma experienced by a victim of bullying can be carried for a lifetime by some; the damage caused being far reaching and ever present.
DIARY OF A 'failed' ACTOR. Ep#12. Mind Set For Success. 'Nature abhors a vacuum!' Although at moments when life is simply too hectic, we may think to ourselves, "What I would give to have absolutely nothing happening in my life right now!", the truth is that anything happening in our life right now is better than nothing.
DIARY OF A 'failed' ACTOR. Ep.11. British Actors vs. American Actors. I am very grateful to my friend, Sabra Williams for requesting that I look into what it is about British acting talent that is causing British actors to be in such high demand in Hollywood, whilst understandably creating not a little irritation and concern amongst the American acting community.
DIARY OF A 'failed' ACTOR- Ep #10- Moving To London. Right now, without a single shred of doubt, London is where it is all happening. If actors are contemplating a move to LA or New York, my advice would be, DON'T! Stay where you are!
DIARY OF A 'failed' ACTOR-By John PIRKIS Ep#9- Moving To New York. Actors flock to LA because they want to get a bite of the TV cherry, and hope to get spotted and given a break in a studio feature. The bucks are bigger in TV, and allegedly so are the opportunities in LA.
Diary Of A 'failed' Actor- Ep#8- Moving To Los Angeles. This episode is the one I have received the most requests for. I won't deny, that it has been incredibly difficult for me to find the balance in its content. The advice offered by the A-List industry professionals is harsh and uncompromising, but frank and honest.
DIARY OF A 'failed' ACTOR-Ep #7-Part II-ABOUT UNIONS: SAG-AFTRA & AEA As you may be aware, the U.S. is heavily unionized, and though there is plenty of non-union work available, it is naturally nowhere near as well paid as the SAG-AFTRA or full AEA roles, and as a performing artist you are not protected as you are when a union member.
Epidode 7. Part 1. ABOUT UNIONS: BRITISH EQUITY. BAC Donations: https://www.nationalfundingscheme.org/BAC012#.VRN8-IVeM4A There is yet again too much information to contain in this episode on joining the Union, as I cover both Equity, the British actors' Union, and, SAG-AFTRA and AEA, the two U.S. Unions serving Screen & Radio actors, and Stage actors respectively across the United States.
We continue our segment on Branding & Marketing, by taking a look at the demand being put on actors to have an active presence on social media, and the necessity to keep adapting to and adopting the many different mediums on the internet to maintain one's marketability, and satisfy your followers.
For me personally, Branding & Marketing is the side of my chosen career as an actor that I have always had great difficulty accepting. But, love it or hate it, you HAVE to embrace it!
CASTINGS & CASTING DIRECTORS- Part 2. So often we hear the term, the 'It' Factor applied in industry magazines to an actor or actress who is sweeping up armfuls of awards or in the latest hit movie or Tv series, and it is brought to our attention again when a casting director is interviewed as to what makes a Star stand out from the crowd in the casting room.
CASTINGS & CASTING DIRECTORS. PART I. There is a lot to cover on this subject, so I am separating it into two parts. Throughout the series I will revisit this topic as there are always new revelations, and you will have questions around casting I am certain.
AGENTS & MANAGERS. When I graduated from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, I was not alone in not immediately being signed onto the books of an agent. But, when I graduated it was also a lot easier to be seen by casting directors, and theatre directors without representation.
YOUR NEXT MOVE. If you have chosen training or not, what is your next move to take in getting your foot on the ladder to start building your career as a professional actor? As I have stated previously, nobody said this was an easy profession to undertake, and if they did, then they were telling porky-pies.
Hello, My name is, John Pirkis and welcome to, DIARY OF A 'failed' ACTOR. Four years after I graduated from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, I was visiting friends for a Sunday lunch. Their daughter, Sarah and a chum of hers were home for the day from boarding school, and joined us at the table as my host, Blythe was carving the roast beef.
